Oliver Medical provides expert package engineering support
Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA...Oliver Medical is once again raising the bar for providers of sterile medical packaging. Only Oliver provides expert packaging engineering and validation support to its medical device manufacturer (MDM) customers.
"We've actively recruited a staff of packaging engineers from large MDMs who have extensive experience testing, validating, and specifying packaging," said Jeff Murak, Oliver director of sales and marketing. "By leveraging their expertise we're now able to bring these same services to our customers. Our industry-savvy packaging engineering team also allows us to better anticipate industry trends and needs, and to provide extensive material performance data."
In August, Oliver welcomed Randy Troutman to its technical support team as principal engineer, medical engineering. Troutman was most recently project manager, global packaging development at Smith & Nephew; prior to that he spent four years at Medtronic as a medical packaging engineer.
Troutman has been responsible for improvement initiatives in the areas of development, maintenance, distribution, material, and process cost; validation projects; new product implementation; and analysis of packaging validation methods and test processes. He has technical expertise in designing and implementing sterile packaging solutions in compliance with FDA standards.
Most significantly, Troutman brings to Oliver the first-hand perspective of medical device users' needs, as well as the packaging engineering expertise to meet those needs.

"I bring an understanding of the market and hands-on, real-world experience from the customer's side of the table. Troutman has been invited to speak about sterile barrier system validation at the MD&M Minneapolis conference on October 26, 2006 (session #307); and about revised global packaging standards ISO 11607-1 & 2 at the Medtronic Packaging & Sterilization Symposium in Puerto Rico on November 1, 2006.
Kevin Zacharias joined Oliver in 2005 as technical director. Zacharias has significant experience managing new product launches in the US and in facilities around the world. As manager of packaging development for Baxter Healthcare, he managed package design and process identification for new products, realizing significant cost savings. At Oliver, Zacharias is responsible for technical services, process engineering, and product development.
