Implications of material selection on the design of packaging machinery

Material selection has significant implications on the design and cost of HFFS (horizontal-form-fill-seal) machinery. By reconciling material selection early in the project and revisiting it during machine construction, packagers can avoid excessive costs, machine redesigns, and project delays.

In this article published in Medical Device Technology, Oliver-Tolas International Managing Director John Merritt discusses the implications of flexible and rigid packaging materials on machine design. The article also addresses how to avoid excessive costs by balancing the limitations, possibilities, and needs of the packaging materials with those of the machinery on which it will run.
